Obviously there are relevant differences between playing in a small bar or in a big shed and / or playing with a small band or with a bigger ensemble, but taking all that into consideration, what qualities and talents do you most appreciate in a soundman? How involved do you want them to be in shaping your sound, if at all? (I guess I should first ask, do you even notice or want to notice what happens in front of the stage before and during a performance?)
You’ve had the good fortune to work with some real gems (including and especially Harry Popick) — can you share an amusing or interesting story or two that involves the person mixing the PA?
Along those same lines — do you ever notice the light show? (which I suppose is usually behind you).
